The Microbiota-Medicine Nexus: Exploring the Impact of Gut Microbiota on Pharmacotherapy

Abstract
Researchers have uncovered in the last few years that as small as capsules of trillions of microscopic organisms in the intestine, called the gut microbiome, can have a large portion of the effects on our medications. It is this complex connection that this review paper attempts to describe between gut microbiota and pharmacotherapy, which in general means using a drug to treat diseases. We’ll become aware of what factors form the composition
of our gut microbiota, the diet being one of them, and even the influence of antibiotics and how this may affect how drugs enter, pass through, and get used by our body. This further supports the successful implementation of
tailored regimens, decreasing levels of drug-induced toxicity, and increasing the efficiency of medications. This paper emphasizes the need to be mindful of gut microbes when you develop and apply medications. It may be a
trailblazing step toward individualized and more productive therapeutic approaches.
