The Role of Bioceramic Sealers in theHealing of Apical Periodontitis: A NarrativeReview

Abstract
Apical periodontitis (AP) is a chronic inflammatory condition affecting the periapical tissues, primarily caused by microbial infection within the root canal system. Successful healing of AP following root canal treatment
(RCT) relies on effective disinfection and the establishment of a durable apical seal. Bioceramic sealers have gained increasing attention in endodontics due to their bioactivity, biocompatibility, and sealing properties. This narrative review aimed to evaluate the role of bioceramic sealers in promoting the healing of AP after RCT. A structured literature search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Google Scholar for studies published between 2020 and 2025. Ten studies met the inclusion criteria and were narratively synthesized. The available evidence suggests that bioceramic sealers are associated with favorable periapical healing outcomes. Most clinical studies demonstrated healing outcomes comparable to or superior to those achieved with epoxy resin-based sealers. Bioceramic sealers appear to be a promising material for enhancing periapical healing following RCT; however, further well-designed clinical studies are needed to confirm their long-term effectiveness.
