Main Article Content
Abstract
Background: The gold standard for identifying lower gastrointestinal problems is still colonoscopy combined with
histological investigation of mucosal biopsy samples. Aim of Study: This study’s goal was to identify the histology
results’ pattern from mucosal samples taken during colonoscopies during the previous year among Al Kharj City
residents. Materials and Methods: This was a retrospective study. Age, gender, colonoscopy diagnosis, and
histological diagnosis were obtained for analysis from the histopathology department’s June 2025 and May 2026
reports. A statistical study was carried out. Results: A total of 250 patients’ data were examined: 107 girls (42.8%)
and 143 men (57.2%). The cases ranged in age from 20 to 70 years and older. The majority of participants were
patients between the ages of 50 and 59. The most prevalent histologic abnormality among the study participants
was tubular adenoma (67, 26.8%), which was followed by hyperplastic polyps (33, 13.2%), adenocarcinoma
(24, 9.6%), chronic inflammation (19, 7.6%), and chronic active colitis (17, 6.8%). Conclusion: For the early
diagnosis of pre-malignant lesions, screening colonoscopy should be advised for everyone 45 years of age or
older. Therefore, histopathology is essential for the diagnosis of both neoplastic and non-neoplastic lesions.
